Blessed Bartolo Longo to be Canonized

VATICAN, Feb 25, 2025 - The Vatican recently announced the canonization of Blessed Bartolo Longo, a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre and the beloved founder of the Sanctuary of the Madonna of the Rosary of Pompei, as confirmed by Pope Francis from the Gemelli Hospital where he is currently recovering. This momentous decision has sent ripples of joy among the faithful, particularly the Knights and Dames of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre who hold Longo's legacy dear.

Bartolo Longo, who was beatified on October 26, 1980, became renowned for his deeply devout connection to the Virgin Mary and his significant social contributions, particularly during his time as the founder of the sanctuary in Naples which draws thousands of worshippers each year. His story, one of personal transformation and steadfast faith, is emblematic of the power of devotion.

Blessed Bartolo was a lawyer from Naples who initially despised the Church, but converted and became responsible for establishing the Shrine of the Holy Rosary at Pompeii.

The Pope has decided to convene a Consistory concerning the upcoming canonizations at a date to be determined.
